Preparing for Winter
Winter in Sault Ste. Marie usually runs from December to March. It’s important to be prepared for the snow, colder weather, and to learn the best ways to stay warm, healthy, and safe during the winter season!
Tips:
Dress Warmly
- Always check the weather forecast before you go outside so you can dress appropriately
- Wear multiple layers of clothing, along with the following
- a toque (winter hat)
- thick socks
- a thick scarf to protect your neck
- gloves or mittens
- a warm winter jacket
- waterproof/slip-resistant boots (ice can be slippery!)
Stay Hydrated, Stay Active!
- As it gets colder, remember to drink plenty of water and warm liquids to maintain hydration
- Whether it’s by going to the gym, walking, skating, skiing or shoveling snow, it’s important to stay active in the winter!
Drive with Caution
- Slippery roads and decreased visibility can make driving a challenge. Consider getting winter tires, and drive slowly and cautiously when it’s snowing and on icy roads!
