Territorial Land Acknowledgement with Gratitude:

We (Sault Ste. Marie and Area Local Immigration Partnership) would like to acknowledge that we are in Robinson-Huron Treaty territory and that this land is the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg, specifically the Ketegaunseebee (Garden River) and Batchewana First Nations, as well as Métis Peoples.

As newcomers, we recognize the Metis, First Nations and Inuit peoples as the traditional stewards of this land since time immemorial. Additionally, we recognize their traditional ways of life and their ties to the land.

As we welcome more newcomers, it is important to acknowledge the dark history of this country and the struggles faced by its original inhabitants.

Acknowledging the people, history, and land we have built our lives on is a small but important step towards reconciliation between Indigenous Peoples and those who came later.

Thank you to our community partners!
